Featured Pet: Gia
I’m Gia, people tell me I’m a super sweet girl! I’m about 1 1/2 years old and 45lbs. Not only do I get along with people but I like other dogs and cats too!
I was surrendered to a high kill shelter when my family was no longer able to provide for me. I hold no grudges, I’m just thankful to be alive. I’d love to be a part of your family and I am always excited to see what fun activities the day may hold.

Happy Tail: Hope
We wanted to give you a quick update on our little toy poodle, Hope. We adopted her in January/February of 2005. When we adopted her you all had indicated she had been rescued from a house with 40 other dogs in it. Also, at the time of rescue she was pregnant and had luxating patellas on both her back legs. But y’all took her in, nursed her back to health and had surgery on her legs.
She is currently doing wonderfully! She is a happy, healthy little dog with a HUGE appetite. At the mere mention of the word “treat” she runs and jumps and spins happy little circles. And then, if you’re not fast enough in getting the treat to her, she’ll give you a couple of barks to tell you to “hurry UP!”
She also serves as Tracy’s little shadow. Hope follows Tracy everywhere she goes. If Tracy is making dinner, Hope is right next to her. If Tracy is taking a shower, Hope is laying on the rug waiting for her to finish. They are truly two peas in a pod.
She has been an absolute delight these past 6 1/2 years and we hope to have her for many, many years to come. She is a spoiled rotten little dog…and we wouldn’t want it any other way. Hope never meets a stranger and loves everyone who comes to our home. I should say, as long as they have a lap to sit on and a hand to pet her with…
Thank you for the wonderful work you do!
PS – Attached is a photo of Hope taken through the sliding glass door as she waits to be let in. You’d never know she was around 11 years old, would you?

Happy Tail: Lexie
Heavenly Hearts,
I am writing to update Heavenly Hearts on Lexie. We adopted Lexie from her foster mom Gina back in Feburarary. It was a rather wirl wind because it all happened so fast. It all started as just filling out the application, then once My dad, mom, and I met Lexie it was a done deal. We filled out the application on Wednesday and by Sunday she was home with us.
It took Lexie some time but she soon came to know us as her family and our home as her home. Lexie has been a blessing to our family. The last dog we had was not great with people and was not much of a family type dog. Most of our family was a little skeptical but as soon as everyone has met Lexie they soon changed their minds. I have had family members and friends wanting to take Lexie home with them. People even on the street can’t resist this dog, everyone comments to us on how cute and loveable she is.
She makes us laugh, cuddles with us,is super spoiled, plays with us, and sometimes yes even drives us CRAZY! Even though she has her crazy moments we are sooo Crazy about her and love her dearly. Thank you Heavenly Hearts!! If it wasn’t for you we may never have known or met our little Lexie.

Happy Tail: Morgan
Thought I’d give you an update on Morgan. She is fantastic! It will be four months on July 3rd that Morgan entered our home and hearts.
On June 4th we started the adult beginners dog training class at For Pet’s Sake in Mukwonago. Morgan knew the ‘sit’ and ‘down’ … but not to stay sitting nor staying down. She also pulled at walking. She has been an excellent student and quickly learned to “talk” to us when she wants to go out on the leash to walk or do homework by going to where her leash is hung by the door and then back to Paul or me, then back to leash, giving it a nose nudge, then back to one of us again. If we don’t react, then she lays on the floor with her nose aimed at the leash!
We go to vet one more time next week for her left ear checkup, as he wanted to make sure after two months it didn’t redevelop. She actually has let me put in the ear drops without too much fuss now, once she realized she’d get a treat afterwords. Still, I can’t keep her still for me to look inside ear.
She has loved sniffing out all sorts of things outside here … and has learned the hard way the “leave it” command when it comes to the American toads that we have around here. Twice she tried to either pick it up or just touched it with her mouth and found out it has a defense oil toad releases that most critters can’t stand! Morgan can smell those toads, though, but when she tracks it down, she just watches it now!!
Morgan is also getting use to our cat’s meows and headrubs to Morgan. Each morning and sometimes throughout the day, our cat, Sven, wants to be near Morgan. Morgan now will even give Sven a gentle lick on the head at times.
Thank you for opening your heart and home to fostering Morgan until her forever home with us. We sure do love her.

Happy Tail: Maggie
Hi Janet,
I’m thinking of you this morning. It was five years ago today Renee and I met you to pick up our Maggie! It has been such a wonderful ride with her…I can’t even tell you! I love that dog so, so much!
We go on a four mile run most nights. She has become my running buddy and last month we actually won a medal together! Our runs take us past fox and squirrels. Squirrels are clearly her favorite! Actually, truth be told, she lives to see the squirrels!
Joe and I went to the Indy 500 a couple of weeks ago and the hardest part for both of us was leaving Maggie. We have really become a great family…or in her words…pack! Joe and I are getting married September 17th and Maggie is quite pleased.
I’m attaching a more recent picture of Maggie and Renee’s dog Luna – her best friend.
Thank you so much for making this possible for us! I can’t tell you how Maggie has changed all of our lives.

Interested in adopting?
Please keep in mind that application approval is possible only if:
- You are at least 21 years old.
- Your current pets are spayed/neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm tested annually, and on monthly heartworm preventive. (We check vet references.)
- You are willing to have a home visit prior to adoption, and follow up as needed.
- You own your home. We may make a rare exception for renters who can show a positive and stable rental history, provide written landlord approval, and have an outstanding veterinary reference for current and/or past pets.
Here is the adoption procedure:
- Submit an application (see link on this page). If you have questions you'd like answered before you apply, please email us at heavenlyhearts@wi.rr.com. While we are very happy to answer questions about our dogs at any time, we can only schedule visits with approved applicants.
- A volunteer will review your application shortly after we receive it. We call your references, including your veterinarian.
- The foster home will contact you to talk about your application and the dog and to answer any questions you may have. Heavenly Hearts Rescue is an all volunteer rescue group. Our goal is to reply to each applicant promptly, but there are times when our volunteers are busy with home, families, fosters and jobs. We appreciate your patience and understanding.
- Once the references are checked, a visit with the dog can be arranged. We do require that all family members (including your current dog if you have one) meet the foster dog during the visit.
- Is it a match? If all goes well, and the foster home and applicant agree this is a great match, arrangements can be made to finalize the adoption. This includes signing the adoption contract and paying the adoption fee.
